Beginner Ultimate Players

If you are new to the sport, you are eligible for three free taster sessions to see if you enjoy it. This will give you a chance to get a feel for the sport and the club before committing to joining. Many of our members were beginners when they joined us and we always love to welcome new players along to give Ultimate a go.

Experienced Ultimate Players

If you have previously played Ultimate with another club, school or university, you are eligible for three guest sessions (paid at the standard rate). This gives you a chance to check you enjoy attending. After three sessions, you are required to enrol as a member.

I'm new to the sport, CAn i come and try it out?

Absolutely - we look forward to welcoming you at any of our sessions! We offer a taster session package for free for players who are new to Ultimate to come along and give it. During these taster sessions, we make sure all new players are supported by our coaches with an introduction on how to throw and the basic rules so you can get involved and play games right from the first session. Many of our players began as complete beginners at St Albans and the majority of our players started playing Ultimate as adults, so it's never too late to get involved!

WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO the SESSION?

That's the great thing about Ultimate, not much is needed.

Simply:

Yep, that's it. Discs and cones are provided by the club, but feel free to bring your own disc if you want.

who can attend trainings?

Anyone, honestly.

However, we do ask that any juniors (U18s) have their parent(s)/carer(s) contact us before attending a training session here.

do i need any experience playing ultimate or other sports to get involved?

Not at all! We have players with a diverse range of Ultimate playing experience from weeks to months to years. Moreover, whilst we have players from a variety of different sporting backgrounds; football, basketball, netball, tennis, volleyball, and rugby to name a few this is not a requisite and plenty of players have Ultimate as their first sport.

Outdoor sessions cost £3.50 each and indoor sessions cost £5.50 each. Players who are new to the sport are entitled to three free taster sessions. Tournament costs are calculated on a case-by-case basis, with the cost of team entry and where applicable accommodation being divided equally by all participants.

All St Albans players must have club membership in order to train and compete. Annual membership costs £20 for adults and £10 for juniors (U18s). Furthermore, for insurance purposes, all St Albans players must be at least basic members of UKU, at an annual cost of £10.

can fitness be increased over time with training sessions?

Fitness can most definitely be increased over sessions, and whilst with any sport fitness helps, it is not mandatory to start playing.

i'm a student, can I join just for term or holiday time?

Yes, you can. We understand that as a student you may not be able to commit to the entire season financially or otherwise. Therefore, on a case-by-case basis we will consider 'guest' players to be given some degree of flexibility. 'Guest' players are entitled to attend 3 training sessions and 1 tournament before being required to obtain St Albans membership. While attending trainings or tournaments as a guest member, we require you to have at least UKU basic membership.

is there a minimum age to join?

Strictly speaking there is no minimum age. In the past, the youngest players who have attended sessions were young adolescents.

However, parent(s)/carer(s) of under 18s will need to get in contact with a member of the executive committee who will consider whether it is appropriate for the child to attend on a case-by-case basis. As a club, we are looking to expand our ability to cater for junior players in the coming months.
