Absolutely - we look forward to welcoming you at any of our sessions! We offer a 3 free taster sessions for players who are new to Ultimate to come along and give it a try. During these taster sessions, we make sure all new players are supported by our coaches with an introduction on how to throw and the basic rules so you can get involved and play games right from the first session. Many of our players began as complete beginners at St Albans and the majority of our players started playing Ultimate as adults, so it's never too late to get involved!
That's the great thing about Ultimate, not much is needed. Mostly you just need to bring yourself and a smile. But if you want to be prepared then it's good to have:
A water bottle
Appropriate footwear
Outdoors = Studded Boots
Indoors = Non-marking Trainers
Sportswear:
Shorts or jogging bottoms
A light t-shirt (eg: white), and a dark t-shirt (avoid pale colours)
A disc if you have one, if not there's plenty of club discs floating around to spare
Anyone, honestly.
However, we do ask that any juniors (U18s) have their parent(s)/carer(s) contact us before attending a training session here.
St Albans Ultimate competes in the Mixed, Men's, Women's & Open (all gender) divisions at Senior & Adult level. We hope one day to hae enough Master's age players to compete across all competitions in the UK!
Not at all! We have players with a diverse range of Ultimate playing experience from weeks to months to years. Moreover, whilst we have players from a variety of different sporting backgrounds; football, basketball, netball, tennis, volleyball, and rugby to name a few this is not a prerequisite and plenty of players have Ultimate as their first sport.
Outdoor sessions cost £5 each and indoor sessions cost £6 each. Players who are new to the sport are entitled to 3 free taster sessions. Tournament costs are calculated on a case-by-case basis, with the cost of team entry and where applicable accommodation being divided equally by all participants.
All St Albans players must have club membership in order to train and compete. Annual membership costs £35 for adults and £17.50 for juniors. Furthermore, for insurance purposes, all St Albans players must be at least basic members of UKU, at an annual cost of £11.
These costs change yearly and are just there to cover club operations & subsidise training.
Yes, you can. We understand that as a student you may not be able to commit to the entire season financially or otherwise. Therefore, on a case-by-case basis we will consider 'guest' players to be given some degree of flexibility. 'Guest' players are entitled to attend 3 training sessions before being required to join the club. While attending trainings as a guest member, we require you to have at least UKU basic membership. Please have a chat to a member of the Exec Committee at training about this.
We recommend being at least 14 years old before joining as you will be training and playing with adults.
That is until we get enough junior players to run a junior team!
Parents or guardians of junior players (Under 18) will need to contact us before their child attends training
